There are many talented writers who will be performing this year. Dan Tyler wrote hits songs “Bobbie Sue” recorded by artist such as the Oak Ridge Boys and “Baby’s Got a New Baby” by SKO. We even have Rhonda Hart who wrote “Did Shave My Legs for This” performed by Deanna Carter. This song was a hit and was even nominated for two Grammy awards.

It’s going to be a labor of love as Petsmart Charities holds a 3-day National Adoption Week-end, September 14-16.  During those three days, more than 2,000 animal welfare organizations across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico will participate at over 1,187 Petsmart stores to find lifelong, loving homes for more than 16,800 dogs, cats and small animals.  The Haven will be present each day from 11am to 3pm at the Eastern Shore Shopping Plaza Petsmart.

The 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season has been active for the Gulf Coast since June 1. The Haven No Kill Animal Shelter would like to remind all pet owners the following steps to take at least 48 hours before any weather system affects you.

• Make sure you have a week's supply of your pet's food and any medication.

• Purchase an Emergency Pet Preparedness Kit from The Haven for just $5.

• Bring outdoor pets indoors, keeping them safe from falling tree limbs and other debris commonly seen in a storm.
• Make sure pets are provided with clean fresh water. Often times after a storm, pools of water can become contaminated with poisons and other harmful contaminants that could be fatal if a pet drinks it.

• And if evacuation is mandated, remember that, if it’s dangerous enough for you to evacuate, it will be dangerous for your pets.  However, most human shelters do not allow pets.  Therefore, contact your vet or local boarding clinic ahead of time if you cannot take your pet with you.
Hurricane season doesn’t end until November 30. Get prepared today.  For more information, visit www.ready.gov/caring-animals

Realizing that pets, more than ever, are being considered family members, Unity on the Eastern Shore Pets in Church Church, located at 22979 US Highway 98 in Fairhope, is extending an invitation to the public to bring their well-behaved pets to church services.  This is the first time any church on the eastern shore has allowed pets to be part of a regular church service and it will begin on Sunday, May 27 at 10:30am and continue on every 4th Sunday of the month.  All dogs must be housebroken, up-to-date on their shots, well-socialized and on a leash seated on the floor next to their owner.  All other pets must be in a carry crate.  Well-socialized, adoptable pets from The Haven and Baldwin County Humane Society’s foster program are also invited, with each animal required to be accompanied by a responsible adult.  The Church feels that this is a wonderful way for the “entire family” to join in the Church’s Celebration of Life Service.
