2012 sept hwy 181 storage event
Hwy 181 Market, located near Hwy 32, will be holding its 2nd Annual Flea Market on Friday-Saturday, September 21-22.   Fifty-plus vendors, as well as arts & crafts, yard sale tents, plants, and live music will make the event memorable for all who attend.  In addition,The Haven, the adoption guarantee animal shelter, will be present on Saturday from 9am to 1pm with an on-site adoption event showcasing many of their available dogs and cats.  The Haven’s prominent MARU (Mobile Adoption Rescue Unit) will be showcasing the available dogs and cats that have been rescued from local shelters and the Haven’s life-saving team will be present to find that perfect match and answer any questions a new adopter may have.  “There are so many animals that need a good home,” said Melissa Smith, Manager of The 181 Market.   “The Haven is our neighbor and we want to assist them in finding homes for these animals. Our Fall Flea Market Event is the perfect venue.  Cool weather, large crowds, we have tons of open space and we are a pet friendly facility.”

There are many talented writers who will be performing this year. Dan Tyler wrote hits songs “Bobbie Sue” recorded by artist such as the Oak Ridge Boys and “Baby’s Got a New Baby” by SKO. We even have Rhonda Hart who wrote “Did Shave My Legs for This” performed by Deanna Carter. This song was a hit and was even nominated for two Grammy awards.

It’s going to be a labor of love as Petsmart Charities holds a 3-day National Adoption Week-end, September 14-16.  During those three days, more than 2,000 animal welfare organizations across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico will participate at over 1,187 Petsmart stores to find lifelong, loving homes for more than 16,800 dogs, cats and small animals.  The Haven will be present each day from 11am to 3pm at the Eastern Shore Shopping Plaza Petsmart.

The 2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season has been active for the Gulf Coast since June 1. The Haven No Kill Animal Shelter would like to remind all pet owners the following steps to take at least 48 hours before any weather system affects you.

• Make sure you have a week's supply of your pet's food and any medication.

• Purchase an Emergency Pet Preparedness Kit from The Haven for just $5.

• Bring outdoor pets indoors, keeping them safe from falling tree limbs and other debris commonly seen in a storm.
• Make sure pets are provided with clean fresh water. Often times after a storm, pools of water can become contaminated with poisons and other harmful contaminants that could be fatal if a pet drinks it.

• And if evacuation is mandated, remember that, if it’s dangerous enough for you to evacuate, it will be dangerous for your pets.  However, most human shelters do not allow pets.  Therefore, contact your vet or local boarding clinic ahead of time if you cannot take your pet with you.
