All dogs and cats owned and kept within in the City of Fairhope, and all dogs and cats brought in or permitted to come within the city, shall wear a collar to which shall be attached a numbered tag (Pet License Number on Tag) issued by the city. Dog and cat licenses are an 
important means of identification. Pet license are $1.25 each and may be purchased at Fairhope City Hall located at 161 North Section Street in Fairhope. Their hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Fairhope, Alabama Code of Ordinances Ord. No. 988, 12-11-95)
Additionally, dogs and cats older than three months of age must be vaccinated against rabies. Pets must be re-vaccinated each year, or every three years with an approved three-year vaccine. Failure to vaccinate or license a dog or cat may result in fines or penalties. (Code of Alabama 1975 §3-7A-2)
