If You Found a Pet

Did you find a lost cat or dog? If so, there are many important tips to read and follow before contacting your animal shelter.

Here are some tips from if you’ve Found a Pet (Stray)

• Check for tags; knock on doors of neighbors. Note that most lost dogs are found within 1,000 feet of their home.

• Create a “Found Pet” flyer by clicking here. Include your pet’s name, gender, approximate height/weight, breed, whether spayed or neutered, when and where your pet was last seen, upload a most recent photo of your pet, and any special needs your pet may have like medications to manage a chronic illness.

• Register the pet on Petco Love Lost. Upload a picture of the found pet and search the Petco Love Lost database. If there is no match, create a free Petco Love Lost found pet flyer to share on Facebook and Nextdoor pages in your area. Frantic parents may be sharing pics of their missing pet and you can help make an important connection.

• Contact the animal control shelter in the area nearest to where you found the animal and create a found report with the shelter. Be prepared to provide your contact information, and details on the found pet, and include any cross streets where found. You can click here to submit a Lost and Found Pet Service Request Form.
