Waived Adoption Fees for Adult Dogs and Cats

The Haven for Animals in Fairhope has waived adoption fees for adult dogs and cats, 1 year and older, through July 31! That’s a huge savings of $175 per dog and $125 per cat. The shelter is full and needs to find forever homes for its animals so that more can be rescued.

The summer is a time when stray cats and dogs flood area shelters. To help more homeless pes find a home, the Haven or Animals will hold a special pet adoption promotion in honor of the July 4th festivities. Beginning Monday, June 27, and running through Tuesday, July 5th, adoption fees for all adult dogs and cats will be waived. That’s a huge savings of $1175 per dog and $125 for a cat. The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, vaccines, microchipping, flea/tick/heartworm preventative, feline leukemia and FIV testing in cats, and more. It’s a great time to adopt your new best friend!

“Shelters across our region are at or over capacity”, says The Haven for Animals Executive Director Michael Graham. “We are seeing a 4% decrease in adoptions compared to the previous year, and adoptable pets are waiting longer than usual to get adopted. Adoption promotions like this one make it affordable for all and can aid in helping the animals find permanent homes filled with endless hugs and treats.”

The Haven also urgently asks you to protect your pets on the 4th of July weekend. More dogs are lost during the holiday than at any other time. Cats get frightened too and will run off if let outside.

Here are some helpful tips from The Haven, to keep your beloved pets safe:

  • Make sure your dog wears a collar with tags containing your current contact info. Getting your dog microchipped is encouraged. Collars with tags signify that it has a home and helps to reunite lost pets with owners.
  • Keep them inside and set a southing acoustical sanctuary. You can drown out extraneous noise and naturally calm your canine, by using calming music and white noise, such as a fountain, fan, or white noise machine.
  • Don’t attempt to pull your dog out from hiding. Gently encourage the dog to come out on his own, with a treat or a toy.
  • Fireworks and Fido don’t mix! Don’t take your dog with you to the fireworks celebration.
  • Comfort and reassure your dog. For some dogs, the calming presence of their beloved humans or canine buddies is a confidence booster in stressful situations.
  • Bright lights can affect your dog. Light flashes and flickering can escalate your dog’s anxiety. Block windows and turn on the lights in the home.
  • The gentle-pressure hug of a compression garment induces feelings of well-being for some dogs. They may not work for all dogs, but when they do, the results are profound.

Have fun this 4th of July, but first, make sure your furry friends are comfortable and secure. Visit www.HavenForAnimals.org for adoption information.
