The Haven provides a shelter and finds life-long loving homes for abused, homeless, and neglected animals, treating them with love, respect, and medical care. Through education and volunteer programs, we promote community awareness of pet overpopulation and responsibility.
The Haven is a non-profit sanctuary for animals that will be cared for regardless of how long it takes to find them loving homes.
๐ About This Role
This is a hands-on, active role responsible for daily animal care, maintaining clean and safe housing areas, facility upkeep, and assisting the public. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy physical work, staying busy, and making a direct impact on the lives of animals every day.
๐ Essential Duties
๐ฝ๏ธPerform daily feeding, watering, and thorough cleaning/sanitization of animal enclosures following established protocols
โกMaintain a fast-paced workflow to ensure all animals receive consistent, high-quality care
๐คAssist with enrichment, socialization, and active handling of animals of varying sizes and energy levels
๐๏ธMonitor animal behavior, appearance, and activity for signs of illness or discomfort
โค๏ธSupport health monitoring and behavior evaluations
๐งนOperate laundry, dishwashing, and cleaning equipment; maintain overall facility cleanliness and organization
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งWork collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and the public while assisting with adoptions
๐ Guide adopters through safe and positive interactions with animals
๐งMaintain equipment and report maintenance needs

Follow all safety procedures and Haven regulations
๐ช Physical Requirements
๐๏ธAbility to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds regularly
๐Comfortable with physically active tasks: lifting, bending, squatting, standing throughout the shift
๐Ability to safely handle animals of various sizes, temperaments, and strength levels
โกComfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
๐งชExposure to cleaning agents, outdoor conditions, and animal allergens
๐
Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed
๐ Qualifications
โHigh school diploma or GED
โAnimal care experience preferred (not required)
โComfortable working hands-on directly with animals
โStrong work ethic in a task-driven environment
โTeam-oriented with ability to work independently
โClear communication skills & positive attitude
โCompassionate, patient, and attentive to animal needs
โValid Alabama Driver’s License
