The Haven provides a shelter and finds life-long loving homes for abused, homeless, and neglected animals, treating them with love, respect, and medical care. Through education and volunteer programs, we promote community awareness of pet overpopulation and responsibility.

📋 About This Role
This is a hands-on, active role responsible for daily animal care, maintaining clean and safe housing areas, facility upkeep, and assisting the public. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy physical work, staying busy, and making a direct impact on the lives of animals every day.
🐕 Essential Duties
🍽️Perform daily feeding, watering, and thorough cleaning/sanitization of animal enclosures following established protocols
⚡Maintain a fast-paced workflow to ensure all animals receive consistent, high-quality care
🤝Assist with enrichment, socialization, and active handling of animals of varying sizes and energy levels
👁️Monitor animal behavior, appearance, and activity for signs of illness or discomfort
❤️Support health monitoring and behavior evaluations
🧹Operate laundry, dishwashing, and cleaning equipment; maintain overall facility cleanliness and organization
👨👩👧Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and the public while assisting with adoptions
🏠Guide adopters through safe and positive interactions with animals
🔧Maintain equipment and report maintenance needs
✅Follow all safety procedures and Haven regulations
💪 Physical Requirements
🏋️Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds regularly
🏃Comfortable with physically active tasks: lifting, bending, squatting, standing throughout the shift
🐕Ability to safely handle animals of various sizes, temperaments, and strength levels
⚡Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
🧪Exposure to cleaning agents, outdoor conditions, and animal allergens
📅Availability to work weekends and holidays as needed

✓High school diploma or GED
✓Animal care experience preferred (not required)
✓Comfortable working hands-on directly with animals
✓Strong work ethic in a task-driven environment
✓Team-oriented with ability to work independently
✓Clear communication skills & positive attitude
✓Compassionate, patient, and attentive to animal needs
✓Valid Alabama Driver’s License
