This program runs in cooperation with http://www.petfinder.com. The photography team posts pictures and descriptions of adoptable animals available at The Haven on the www.petfinder.com web site. Volunteer Orientation
If you like to stay active and enjoy the outdoors, then put on your sneakers and come meet some of our four-legged friends waiting to hang out with you! Reducing stress and helping these animals learn how to socialize with humans and other canine companions is important when trying to find their life-long loving home.
The Haven is grateful to our partners at PetCo and Pet Supermarket for allowing our shelter to utilize space in their stores to showcase our adoptable kittens and adult cats. Volunteers in the Fantastic Feline program promote all of our adoptable felines to the public. Volunteers work with The Haven staff to coordinate and transfer adoptable felines to our local satellite locations and also care for them during their stay. Our furry and friendly felines can be seen and adopted conveniently right from those locations. The goal of this program is to promote healthy adoptable felines for adoption rather than be euthanized.
We also have volunteers that elect to socialize our felines. These dedicated individual’s interact with the felines that live in our "Cat Community Center". We have over 20-30 cats that live in a peaceful colony in our CCC. This helps our homeless felines find furever homes by helping them learn to trust humans once again.
Foster Care for Cats and Dogs
The foster program was established to give injured, sick, abused, homeless, and unsocialized cats and dogs that would otherwise be euthanized the chance to heal, recover, and find permanent, loving homes. Experience with cats and/or dogs and Volunteer Orientation
Marketing & Fundraising
The primary function of this team is to raise money for the homeless, abused, and neglected animals and bring this need to the awareness of the citizens of Fairhope and beyond. We organize such fundraising and PR events as the MMOR dog walking parade, Pet Pictures with Santa Claws, and events involving schools and local radio stations. Volunteer Orientation
Participants create a variety of promotional materials including brochures, ads, posters etc. The team also works with other volunteer programs on a project-by- project basis to support their graphic needs. Volunteer Orientation
This program is not available at this time. After consulting with national animal rescue organizations, we now require interested volunteers to provideproof of liability insurance for themselves and their therapy dog. You can find out more information by visiting PetPartners.org. Once you and your pet are regsitered with PetPartners you can contact our executive director to arrange a meeting with you and your pet.
Shelter Dog Training
Participants assist in the dog-related training required of all volunteers. The focus of the training is on understanding body language of shelter dogs under stress and on dog obedience skills to make the animals ready for prospective owners. Volunteer Orientation
Volunteers assist the staff at The Haven in many ways. One way volunteers can assist is by retreiving and logging all incoming calls. Volunteers can also assist the adoption team by conducting follow-up adoption calls. Volunteer Orienation
The goal of the Resale Shop is to raise funds to support the care of the animals at the shelter on an ongoing basis. Volunteer Orientation
