Dog Walking
Each shelter dog is walked once and sometimes twice a day for exercise, fresh air, socialization, and human contact. During this time they are also taught basic dog obedience skills. Volunteer Orientation
Fantastic Felines Volunteers in this program work toward increasing the public’s awareness of cats as pets, with the goal of increasing the number of cat adoptions at our local PetsMart. Volunteer Orientation and PetsMart guidelines Foster Care for Cats and Dogs
The foster program was established to give injured, sick, abused, homeless, and unsocialized cats and dogs that would otherwise be euthanized the chance to heal, recover, and find permanent, loving homes. Experience with cats and/or dogs and Volunteer Orientation
Marketing & Fundraising
The primary function of this team is to raise money for the homeless, abused, and neglected animals and bring this need to the awareness of the citizens of Fairhope and beyond. We organize such fundraising and PR events as the MMOR dog walking parade, Pet Pictures with Santa Claws, and events involving schools and local radio stations. Volunteer Orientation
Graphic Design
Participants create a variety of promotional materials including brochures, ads, posters etc. The team also works with other volunteer programs on a project-by- project basis to support their graphic needs. Volunteer Orientation
Pet Therapy
This program is not available at this time. After consulting with national animal rescue organizations, we now require interested volunteers to provideproof of liability insurance for themselves and their therapy dog. You can find out more information by visiting PetPartners.org. Once you and your pet are regsitered with PetPartners you can contact our executive director to arrange a meeting with you and your pet.
Shelter Dog Training Participants assist in the dog-related training required of all volunteers. The focus of the training is on understanding body language of shelter dogs under stress and on dog obedience skills to make the animals ready for prospective owners. Volunteer Orientation Office Support Volunteers assist the staff at The Haven in many ways. One way volunteers can assist is by retreiving and logging all incoming calls. Volunteers can also assist the adoption team by conducting follow-up adoption calls. Volunteer Orienation The goal of the Resale Shop is to raise funds to support the care of the animals at the shelter on an ongoing basis. Volunteer Orientation
