Bubbles were everywhere this past Sunday as 15 Haven volunteers, and approximately 55 dogs with their owners gathered at the American Legion Post 199 in Fairhope for The Haven’s annual “Dirty Dog Wash”. Nearly $1000 was raised for the adoption guarantee shelter to maintain the care of the abandoned, neglected and abused animals that come through their doors. At $15 or $10 a muzzle, the dogs were washed and rinsed to look their best. Most of the volunteers were soaked too, but no one complained due to the hot day. June Steele, owner of “Dog Daze Grooming” not only donated the shampoo, but led the volunteers in washing, scrubbing, rinsing, drying and preening to make sure the dogs looked their best.
“Many thanks to the American Legion for partnering with The Haven for a fun and successful afternoon,” said Gaye Wilson, who was the chairperson of the event. “Thanks also to the Haven volunteers who, as always, had a wonderful time together raising funds to benefit the animals.”
Who let the dogs out?! If you did and they show it, come to the Dirty Dog Wash, sponsored byThe Haven and the American Legion Post 199 on June 24, from 1-4pm. The event will be held at the American Legion post at 700 South Mobile Avenue. Under the guidance of June Steele, owner of “Dog Daze Grooming”, she and the Haven volunteers will wash your dog, $10 for small dogs, $15 for large. June is donating her shampoo and time, so all proceeds will go toThe Haven, the adoption guarantee animal shelter. “The American Legion All Stars” will entertain the crowd.
